If you were lucky enough as a child to have Danny Kaye's recordings of folk and fairy tales (it would have been on one of those things we called records) you will remember the story of Clever Gretel, a cook who works for a mysterious and slightly scary employer, The Master. Like all good cooks, Gretel likes to check her progress occasionally. One day (and what cook hasn't done this?), she crosses the line by eating, rather than tasting, a few roast chickens meant for a guest. True to her name, she uses her wits to get herself out of a jam and send guest and Master on a wild chase. With his flexible voice, Kaye evokes Gretel's loving, clucking voice as she coos, "Such yooocie shickens" (juicy chickens) while basting the roasting birds.
The Juicy Chiken blog is a diary-style blog that covers what goes on in my kitchen, with an audience of solution-seeking, busy people who want to cook at home in mind. There are many wonderful blogs for "food lust"- inspiring photography, recipes that are professionally tested or require skill or brute determination and inner strength (like cooking through notable French cookbooks), but this just ain't one of them.
I hope you will find something here that you love as much as Clever Gretel loved her "yoocie shikens." If you're already in love with food and want to publish your "food things" (anybody out there an Ab Fab fan?) on this blog, go ahead.
And, by the way, I know that Chiken is misspelled. It adds to the charm, no?
