Ever notice how usually food in dreams tastes disgusting even if it looks good? Last night's food dream was a surprise in that it was 100 percent tasty. Of course, I was dreaming about Italian food in Chicago's Little Italy, the last Chicago neighborhood I lived in before being relocated to the outskirts of nowhere. I wouldn't say that Chicago's Italian food holds a candle to nabes like North Beach in San Francisco, but there were some bright spots and some colorful things, like Scarfuri bakery, where the ancient Scarfuri ladies cut pizza with a giant pair of black handled sewing scissors (Lincoln swears they were rusty).
Specifically, I was dreaming about an almost endless antipasta salad bar which tasted a lot like the chickpea salad at Osteria Via Stato (which is not in Little Italy, but in River North on State) and a big, round loaf of hot Tuscan bread. Consulting the on-line dream dictionary, I learn that salad indicates a need to express feelings or a longing for nature. Either could work, as a blogger, I'm obviously someone who can't live without expressing and the bronchitis held me back from both that and getting out of the house, let alone getting into nature. Bread signifies the basic needs of life (which have also been suffering due to the seasonal blahs) or it's all the qualities and great things I've learned in life (not too sure about that one). Cities signify social environment.
So, it sounds like the giant bread and salad bar has something to do with the ongoing process of settling in to my mid-sized Midwestern city where there isn't much in the way of good Italian food (per Rudy, the Italian blind installer). I suppose that could explain the oil and vinegar dressing.

You have some interesting views on the dream. Where is the dream dictionary you are citing? I'm wondering if the dream for Italian food is also not a way for your subconscious to try and seek out summer (or at least warmer temps). This has been a miserable winter and it's not over yet. (sigh) The main consolation is that we're heading out of the heart of winter - the days are getting longer.
Yo Hildy! So glad that you are still following this pathetic blog!
I used the dream dictionary that pops up when you Google dream interpretation. If you have a suggestion for a good dream dictionary, let me know!
