Bartleby's Favorite Snawidge

My son, Bartleby, well, I had such high hopes for him culinary-wise. His beloved Ethiopian babysitter had him eating shiro (chickpea mash), lentils and her rice (see recipe posted to this blog) when he started eating solids. Mommy and Daddy took him everywhere in Little Italy, Greektown, Pilsen and Chinatown and he ate. But as he approaches three years this month, his eating habits have transformed from Global Baby to Typical Kid. He still likes dumplings and black olive pizza, but that's all that remains of our once adventurous eater.

Here's a recipe for his favorite "snawidge":

Peanut Butter And Apricot Jelly On Waffle

Toast a frozen waffle.
Per Bartleby, "Jelly first, then peanut butter"
Cut in half and make a sandwich
Place on your good, everyday china in your favorite Dansk pattern ever (because he won't eat off his plastic dishes anymore)
Serve
Have wet sponge handy for cleanup.

Here's hoping Bartleby doesn't acquire the same pickiness as my honorary niece, Georgette. From age 3 onward, Georgette became so picky about eating that she couldn't even bring herself to eat her favorite foods if they "touched" each other on the plate. She remains that picky to this day, and she's now 14 years old!

Bartleby not only doesn't want his food to touch, he wants everything served on an individual plate, preferably my Dansk dishes with the beautiful blue flowers, which he calls "Flower plates." Thank goodness I never registered for wedding china. I am in for it.
